“By the People: A Dark Corner Reunion” Celebrating America’s 250th Through Black Land Stewardship, Storytelling, and Community

Overview

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Foxfire Ranch will welcome A Dark Corner Reunion, a day-long celebration of community, culture, and Black land stewardship presented as part of By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, a national initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. While America marks 250 years as a nation, Foxfire Ranch invites visitors to reflect on stories that stretch even further back, rooted in the land, carried through generations, and sustained by neighbors who have shaped the North Mississippi Hill Country through resilience, ingenuity and collective care.

Visitors are invited to:

· Walk the land and reflect on the ancestors who shaped it and their stories.

· Add memories to a neighborhood historical timeline.

· Quilt, scrapbook and build wish boxes.

· Create seed bombs and learn about native plants.

· Join a traditional cakewalk (lucky winners will take a cake home with them).

· Sing, reminisce and reconnect with neighbors old and new.
