However, occasionally there are areas that combine social media friendly features like stunning settings, storied histories, or that ever elusive sense of place. Oxford, Mississippi, manages to nail all of them, offering a wealth of cool places to capture for the ‘gram. Here are just a few of our favorites:

The University of Mississippi—also known as Ole Miss—is consistently ranked one of the nation’s most beautiful college campuses, and if there’s ever any doubt, a visit to The Grove will prove the point. This 10-acre green space at the heart of the Ole Miss campus may be best known for its top-tier tailgating, but it’s arguably at its best the 355 or so days a year when the school’s not hosting a home football game. The Walk of Champions archway is the perfect vantage point to give your snaps a sense of scale, with the added bonus of letting you walk in the footsteps of UM’s famed football team.

Just a football’s throw from Ole Miss’s famed Grove is a photo op inspired by another kind of greatness: Rowan Oak, home of Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner. Features like white columns and the author’s notes dashed on the walls in his own hand make the Greek revival style house the stuff of Southern gothic dreams, while the surrounding Bailey Woods offer ample opportunity for gorgeous outdoor shots.

While on the subject of Faulkner, did you know you can snag a selfie with the famed writer himself in Oxford? In honor of the 100th anniversary of his birth, the town built a statue of him sitting on a bench in front of City Hall. The statue’s been a favorite photo spot ever since, as the rendering gives visitors a chance to pose creatively with the literary great.

Oxford, Mississippi, is proudly named after Oxford, England, and takes ample opportunity to honor its namesake by celebrating all things English. A prime example of this is the famous red phone booth. Conveniently located right by City Hall and the Faulkner statue, the red phone booth is sure to be a conversation-starting setting for photos. Insider info: a second phone booth was recently installed between the Visit Oxford office and the parking garage!

Mural walls seem to be popping up everywhere and Oxford is no exception. Oxford got its first installment in 2019 at the locally owned hardware store, Sneed’s, with a brightly colored abstract wall. The Oxford Canteen wanted to “brighten the corner” and commissioned a buzz-worthy mural featuring honey bees and vivid flowers. The latest art wall is located behind City Hall and is a postcard mural which features iconic scenes from Oxford as well as cultural and historical imagery. Oxford is beautiful from any angle, but to really get a next-level shot, head to The Coop. Perched on the rooftop of boutique hotel The Graduate, The Coop offers unrivaled views of Oxford, especially around sunset. After all, even if you’ve “done it for the ‘gram” enough for one day, there’s no better way to close out a day than with a sunset toast!
